of Bluegrass & Old-Time Music & Dance
This event took place from February 29-March 2, 2008
SATURDAY NIGHT HEADLINE
CONCERT
Featuring Rustler's Moon with Kathy Kallick and Bill Evans
Saturday March 1, 7:00 PM with guest The
Platte Valley Boys
Saturday March 1, 9:30 PM with guest The
Becky Schlegel Band
Kathy
Kallick and Bill Evans have played together many times in recent
years, and both have been making important contributions to
bluegrass since the 1970s. They have toured the country and
the world with their music, collaborated with some of the top
contemporary acoustic musicians, and have an obvious reverence
for traditional bluegrass. But they have also recorded a number
of their own compositions, and have never forgotten to have
fun playing this music. Their current music with Tom Bekeny
and Cindy Browne is a combination of that played with their
previous bands plus new pieces that are shaped by Rustler's
Moon -- based in traditional bluegrass, of course, but with
some exciting new wrinkles.
Kathy Kallick (guitar, vocals) has been
among the elite of contemporary songwriters and singers since
she and Laurie Lewis co-founded the internationally -acclaimed
band, Good Ol' Persons, in 1975. She's also a rock-solid guitarist
and an in-demand teacher. In 2001, she received a "Lifetime
Achievement Award" from the California Bluegrass Association
for all her contributions. Kathy has released fourteen albums,
which include more than one hundred of her original compositions
and arrangements, and been on countless compilations. Both of
her releases with The Kathy Kallick Band -- "Walkin' In
My Shoes" and "Warmer Kind Of Blue" -- enjoyed
substantial success on the bluegrass charts.
San Francisco Bay Area musician and Virginia native,
Bill Evans has been involved with bluegrass music and
the banjo for over twenty-five years as a player, teacher, writer,
and historian. He occupies a unique niche in the banjo world:
celebrated worldwide for his traditional and progressive bluegrass
banjo styles as well as his innovative original compositions,
he also enjoys a reputation as an outstanding instructor as
well as being an expert player of nineteenth century minstrel
and classic/parlor banjo styles. His latest accomplishment is
authoring Banjo for Dummies for Wiley Publications. In addition
Bill is also the co-author of Mel Bay's Parking Lot Pickers
Songbook: Banjo Edition, a collection of two hundred and fifty
jam session favorites with an accompanying two CD set.
Rustler's Moon has a great time playing this music
-- as well as selections from their collective previous albums,
Kathy's many wonderful "solo" releases, favorites
from the Good Ol' Persons repertoire, and bluegrass/country
classics. So come out and visit with them on Saturday evening
at the Winter Bluegrass Weekend, February 29-March 2, 2008.
Tickets for the Headline Concert are separate
