A Festival
of Bluegrass & Old-Time Music & Dance
This event took place from February 29-March 2, 2008
THE GATHERING PLACE
sponsored by b manning lutherie
The Gathering Place, located down the hall past the exhibit rooms, will once
again be the place to find a jam or see friends at the Winter Bluegrass
Weekend. Make sure to stop by. There will be organized jam sessions on both
Saturday and Sunday, plus various activities for kids throughout the weekend
(see the schedule page for details).
Bill's TLC Stage
Host Bill Cagley invites you to sing and /or play a few numbers for a
friendly audience in the Gathering Place. He'll even play with you if you
want. Come on out on Saturday from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
WORKSHOPS
sponsored by the Homestead Pickin' Parlor
Introductory workshops on various instruments will be mixed with a series of
interpretive workshops over the weekend. Topics include Performing as a
Duet, Composer's & Songwriter's Session, Songs of Heart & Home, and an
Instrument Builder's Showcase (see the schedule page for details).
SWAP MEET
Get out that old guitar from the closet and turn it into cash or trade it
for a new mandolin at the Swap Meet on Sunday afternoon from 11 AM to 3 PM
in the downstairs lobby area. When the Winter Bluegrass Weekend first began
almost thirty years ago, it was called a swap meet and was basically a
rummage sale for acoustic music. Everyone brought their instruments,
accessories, books, records, and other music related items to swap and sell.
SPOTLIGHT ON SERIES
The Spotlight On Series returns this year with host Phil Nusbaum. Phil will
be exploring the longevity of certain bands, including 'Sotagrass, Bob &
Lynn Dixon, and The Middle Spunk Creek Boys. Downstairs in the Dance Parlour
on Sunday from 1 PM to 3PM.
OPEN STAGE
The Winter Bluegrass Weekend will feature some open stage time on Saturday
from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM in the Europa Room. You can sign up for a 20
minute slot in the Gathering Place starting at 7:00 PM on Friday evening. |
