We expect scores of pickers and grinners to pack into the Minneapolis Marriott West Hotel for a weekend gala of musical performances, entertainment, and jamming. The information below is from our 2012 festival, so you can get a sense of all the fun to expect. We'll post information for 2013 as it becomes available.
Ballroom Concerts. The main ballroom has a wonderfully visible stage with seating in a comfortable banquet style arrangement. And we can always expect great sound from the Armadillo Sound Company. The Saturday night ballroom concert with The Josh Williams Band be the highlight of the weekend. Since being presented with the “Emerging Artist of The Year” award by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) in Nashville in 2010, The Josh Williams Band has become a leading tribute to the tradition of bluegrass music.
The Josh Williams Band will be joined on Saturday by The DitchLilies and the Race For A Place Champions. We'll start out on Friday with The Platte Valley Boys, The High 48s, and wind up the night with a CD release party for Barton;'s Hollow. Watch for updates and detailed schedules on our schedule page and ballroom concerts page.
The Race For A Place Band Contest will be on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Ten groups will compete for over $1000 in top prize value with the winner getting a place on the main stage of the 2012 Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Festival. Last year the band competition was won by No Grass Limit, an new and up and coming bluegrass band with over 100 years of musical experience. With original tunes of tales, life lessons, and love, No Grass Limit truly sets themselves apart from any bluegrass band. This year's concert will be hosted by The Woodpicks (the 2008 Race Champions).
Banquet Dinner Celebration on Saturday starting with a reception at 5:00 PM and dinner at 6:00 PM, with an after dinner program that includes a performance by the Race For A Place Champions. Dinner attendees can remain in place for the best seats in the house for the evening's ballroom concerts starting at 7:00 PM with The Josh Williams Band and The DitchLilies.
