Kickoff Jam Session

The Minnesota Homegrown Kickoff is traditionally the first outdoor festival of the season and folks are ready meet up with old friends and make new ones! The Kickoff is a three-day outdoor music and camping festival featuring regional bands performing bluegrass, old-time string band, and related forms of acoustic music.

Typically, 20 MBOTMA member bands are selected to perform on the main stage at El Rancho Mañana Campground & Riding Stables near Richmond, Minnesota. The 2017 dates are Friday, June 2 through Sunday, June 4.

Starting in 2016 the Kickoff was held in conjunction with the Great Minnesota Uke Gathering. This is a Minnesota ukulele weekend celebration and a get together for all ukulele players (or want-to-be players) with workshops, jams, sing-alongs, food, camping, something for all skill levels and lots of free uke related giveaways.

Main Stage show times for The Kickoff are usually 6:00 to 11:00 pm Friday, 12:00 noon to 11:00 pm Saturday, and 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Sunday. Bring your lawn chairs and find a place to sit in the beautiful shady stage area.

In addition to the main stage performances we will have workshops, organized jam sessions, music and craft vendors, and good food available. The Gathering Place, a large tent not far from the main stage area, serves as a welcome center for all who come to the Kickoff. You are the star at Ranch House Live, an opportunity for all kinds of groups to fill one of the open stage times in the ranch house. Meanwhile, bluegrass and old-time musicians from across the Midwest will keep the campfires ringing with jam sessions around the clock.

More information, detailed schedules, tickets and the volunteer page will become available early in 2017. We hope to see you there!
