The Minnesota Bluegrass Community Concert program, which brings MBOTMA’s favorite bands to venues throughout the state, will be continuing in 2015 with another double header. Coming up next:

  • Moose Lake MN, Friday April 24. King Wilkie's Dream teams up with Blue Groove for night #1 of this weekend double header.
  • Bemidji MN, Saturday April 25. King Wilkie's Dream teams with The Froemming Family for night #2.

King Wilkie's Dream

King Wilkie's Dream is the culmination of a convergence of talent and circumstance, orchestrated by a musical marriage broker, of sorts. It is bluegrass music. It is fresh. It is musically exciting. Three members are most-recently refugees of Hey Lonesome, a Twin Cities based bluegrass band, and the other two have been busy with many different genres of music. Robbi Podrug and Shane Zack join Vaughn Asselstine and John Niemann, to create a new sound and a big noise in the world of acoustic music. The groove is infectious, the musical arrangements are inspired, and the vocal harmonies will make you sit up straight and take notice.

Blue Groove

Blue Groove is a contemporary bluegrass band located in Minneapolis. David Smith (banjo), Adelle Hyrkas (guitar), Jim Krans (bass), Mike Keyes (guitar) and Brent Fuqua (mandolin) draw their material from a variety of artists including Gillian Welsch, Alison Krausse, and JD Crowe.

The Froemming Family

The Froemming Family is a remarkable bluegrass and gospel music family band from Manannah, Minnesota. Scott and Anna (bass) have been married for 30 years and home schooling their children Ruth (mandolin and guitar), Faith (fiddle), Elsie (banjo), and Carl (guitar).
